Hiring Freeze

On February 14, 2011 Governor Brown issued Executive Order B-3-11 ordering hiring restrictions necessary to help achieve fiscal savings. Hiring freeze exemptions for public health and safety, revenue generation, and other essential functions were subject to Governor’s Office approval. Since this time, the Department of Finance has been working with agencies and departments to develop targets for budgetary reductions in lieu of the hiring restrictions. Departments that achieved their target budget reductions, as determined by the Director of the Department of Finance, have been exempted from the hiring freeze. To determine if a specific department is currently subject to the hiring freeze, call that department’s human resource office directly.
