Job Description and Duties

The primary focus of this position is providing statewide solutions regarding assessments for Class Consolidation.  Incumbent must be abreast of current trends and serves as the Subject Matter Expert for the State of California regarding Selections.  This is a limited-term position for up to 24 months that may become permanent.

Incumbent will lead a team in the development and validation of effective competency models and competency-based assessments for employee selection, promotion, career development, and organizational effectiveness; manages the development, validation, and administration of cognitive and non-cognitive competency assessments for selection; applies the principles, theories, and methods of industrial/organizational psychology to improve assessment development and validation methods.

Under the administrative direction of the Chief, Selection Division, this position serves as the state’s principle advisor on matters related to the Selection Services Program which includes selection, examination administration including competency based assessments, test development, and validation as well as application/interpretation of federal uniform guidelines, state civil service laws, rules, and policies.  This position is responsible for providing direction and leadership to the Division’s Selection Services Program and related functions.

Describe a situation in which you provided your professional advice and guidance on a politically sensitive topic to key stakeholders.  Explain how you prepared for and communicated the advice.  What was the outcome?

            5.  Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
