Job Description and Duties

Position is located in Long Beach, CA.

Under general supervisor of the Assistant Chief, MEPD, the incumbent performs a variety of the most difficult general office duties to support the California State Lands Commission's pollution prevention program.

  • Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) verification of data sheets received from field safety inspectors; conduct QA/QC of the Marine Oil Terminals’ Vessel Transfer Notification Form to ensure that the quantities of oil from the Marine Oil Terminals are accurate, current, and entered correctly into the Oil Spill Prevention Database (OSPD); audit the data sheets and the Vessel Transfer Notification Forms; work with the Marine Safety Specialist I to resolve any errors.  Recommend improvements to the OSPD, as necessary.
  • Create monthly summary reports of total vessels monitored for each safety field inspector.  Generate all monitored and non-monitored activities month-end report for Division staff.  Using Crystal Reports, generate and provide month-end reports for the Southern California Field Office Supervisor.
  • Perform filing of hard-copy documents to maintain a follow-up system for the terminals, facilities, reports, personnel information, spills, and other documents.
  • In the absence of the second Office Technician, perform back-up duties.  Also, act as back up to the office receptionist as needed.
  • Perform and coordinate mail merges and mass mailings for Stakeholder Meetings and Prevention First Symposium.
  • Generate miscellaneous letters to terminals. 
  • Assist in the training of summer interns. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate for the Office Technician classification.
