Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Prison Industries Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of inmates engaged in dairy operation.  Supervises, leads, and trains inmate workers in both plant and herd maintenance.  Train assigned inmate workers in all aspects of quality milk production.  Keep appropriate records, keep assigned area(s) clean, control of all tools and assigned equipment.  Train inmates in safety, conduct safety meeting, and ensure the Industry Employment Program is offered to all eligible inmates. Perform inmate timekeeping and monitor job performance as required by the classification.

Working Conditions

Persons appointed to positions in this class must be reasonably able to maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental, and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees or that of inmates.  Assignments during tour of duty may include sole responsibility for the supervision of inmates and/or the protection of personal and real property.  Persons appointed to positions in this class are required to wear a personal alarm and must carry a whistle at all times while on the worksite.
