Department Information

The Recovery Branch of Cal OES is recruiting for multiple Disaster Assistance Program Specialist positions. These positions report to Headquarters located in Mather, CA.

In the event of an emergency:

Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. Cal OES provides training to enhance the understanding of emergency and incident management to all employees. As an employee, you will be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.


Limited Term and Emergency hire positions may be extended with the possibility to become permanent to support emergency operations and our Department Mission.

Disaster Assistance Programs Specialist I

Either Pattern I

Experience: Four years of broad and progressively responsible coordination experience with disaster assistance programs. (College education may be substituted for up to three years of the required qualifying experience on a year-for-year basis.)

Or Pattern II

Experience: Four years of experience in a field related to construction cost estimating, construction management, contracting, building inspection, basic engineering, basic architecture, property appraisal, building insurance adjustment, urban or environmental planning, and/or grant writing. (College education may be substituted for up to three years of the required qualifying experience on a year-for-year basis.)

Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications based on possession of an educational or license requirement must include a copy of your degree/transcripts and/or license along with your application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.

Driver License Requirement

Possession of a valid driver license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants who do not possess the license will be admitted to the examination but must secure the license prior to appointment.
