Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Electric Generation System Specialist III and the technical lead of the Environmental Program Area in the Energy Generation Research Office, the incumbent provides air quality analytical support to the environmental research team. The incumbent conducts technical analyses and provides direction in the development of natural gas and electricity research projects funded by the Energy Commission related to air quality, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. The incumbent contributes analytical skills and technical assessments to an interdisciplinary team and assists the management with program planning and implementation of projects addressing energy policy.

Training and Development (T&D) assignments may be considered.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of techniques of air sampling and determination of physical and chemical characteristics; pollutants; factors contributing to air pollution in metropolitan areas and available control measures.
  • Ability to conduct research and special studies on, and make recommendations for, the elimination or control of air pollution sources and to assist in research work and in the analysis of technical information pertaining to automatic control systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action, as well as to operate in a lead capacity for special studies and projects.
  • Knowledge of analysis, development, design, optimization, operation, testing, and maintenance of control systems as related to air pollution control; meteorology as related to air pollution; theory, practices, and methods used in analysis as related to air pollution control.
  • Knowledge of design and use of atmospheric pollution control devices and surveillance instruments, statistical techniques employed in the analysis of air pollution and meteorological data; economic and health effects of the discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of California's energy system and its impacts on air quality and public health.
  • Knowledge of climate-related risks to California’s energy system, and how these risks relate to air quality and public health.
