Job Description and Duties

California Energy Commission seeks an Energy Analyst in the Energy Assessments Division/Demand Analysis Office/Transportation Energy Fuels Forecasting Unit.

The Energy Assessments Division (EAD) assesses California’s electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends to provide information to the state’s decision makers and the public. These assessments inform the development, and implementation, of energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals.

The Energy Analyst is under the direct supervision of the Energy Resources Specialist III and under the lead of the Energy Commission Specialist II in the Transportation Energy Forecasting Unit. The incumbent serves as part of an interdisciplinary team preparing technical analyses that support forecasts of transportation energy demand for the Integrated Energy Policy Report. The incumbent performs a variety of data collection, data entry, and data analysis tasks of average difficulty using programming tools such as Python or R, data visualization tools including Tableau, and other data management tools including Microsoft Excel.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

· Strong analytical and technical skills, and experience analyzing data sets using a programming language such as Python, R, data visualization tools such as Tableau, and other data management tools;

· Subject matter knowledge transportation energy forecasting would be desirable, although not required;

· Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability communicate technical information in a simple consumer-friendly manner;

· Ability to make effective presentations and communicate effectively with both internal staff and external agencies;

· Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well as part of a team, and perform independent tasks that contributed towards a shared goal.
