Job Description and Duties

California Energy Commission seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Energy Research and Development Division/Energy Generation Research Office. Under the general supervision of the Energy Resources Specialist III in the Energy Generation Research Office, the incumbent serves as the programmatic lead for the renewable energy research and development (R&D) area. The incumbent leads and conducts highly complex technical analyses and shapes renewable energy R&D program policy. The incumbent provides technical leadership, direction, and coordination for an interdisciplinary team and for program planning and implementation in various renewable energy and related R&D areas. The goal of the R&D program is to conduct research, development, and demonstration to advance science and technologies not adequately provided by the regulated and competitive markets. The incumbent is a recognized expert in the field of renewable energy and highly knowledgeable in related technologies, policies, practices, and the state of R&D. The incumbent leads R&D planning, implementation, and analysis; manages complex R&D solicitations and projects; provides expert technical advice; and oversees the development of technical materials.
