Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Program and Project Supervisor of the Appliance Efficiency Standards Unit within the Appliance Efficiency Branch of the Efficiency Division, the incumbent independently performs the varied, complex, technical, and analytical work on the topics of appliance energy use, including performing complex modeling and analyses that contribute to sensitive and responsible energy systems-related work. This work requires a high level of knowledge, skill, and ability which is demonstrated through the full journeyperson level. The Appliance Efficiency Branch has primary responsibility of developing, adopting, and implementing statewide minimum efficiency standards for end-use appliances. In addition, the incumbent represents the division and the California Energy Commission (CEC) before various state, federal, and local energy agencies and regional, national, professional, and governmental bodies which significantly influence the state’s energy policies with respect to Appliance Efficiency Branch activities. The incumbent will serve as a knowledgeable resource on policy, technology, market, and strategic issues as directed; and plays a primary role in coordination and collaboration with other state, federal, and local agencies, as well as other interested stakeholders and the public. In particular, the incumbent will develop and make recommendations on specific compatibility requirements between appliances, utility system design and operations, and range of incentive programs administered by the state and load-serving entities in consultation with the California Public utilities Commission (CPUC), California Independent System Operator (CAISO), California Air Resources Board (CARB), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), utilities, and other experts and stakeholders.

The California Energy Commission seeks an Electric Generation System Specialist I in the Efficiency Division’s Appliance Efficiency Branch.
