Job Description and Duties

Under the close supervision of a Workforce Services (WS) Employment Program Manager I and the direct guidance of a Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) Mentor, and after on-the-job training, Student Assistants will provide services to youth designated as at-risk. Student Assistants will: case manage clients through peer advising, refer clients to educational institutions and local training providers, provide vocational guidance, present job search workshops, conduct outreach, and recruit youth from the local community and schools. Applicants must meet YEOP eligibility criteria, be attending school, and have a desire to help other youth achieve their educational goals.

Special Requirements

Students must have the ability to read and write at a level necessary to document activities.

Students who are Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) eligible must be between the ages of 15 and 25, have a desire to help other youth, and are currently enrolled in at least six (6) semester units or the equivalent of college courses at an accredited college or university, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher may apply for this position. Copies of your transcript(s) will be required prior to employment and after completion of each semester thereafter.

This is a non-testing classification, therefore anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specification may apply for this position. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.
