Department Information

The Del Mar Fairgrounds Operations Department is responsible for providing the skilled labor resources to operate and maintain the facilities in support of a wide variety of shows, exhibitions and meetings throughout the year.  Operations is also responsible for the repair, maintenance and minor construction of all the buildings, structures and equipment located on more than 400 acre campus.

Job Description and Duties

Selected candidate will work in the Operations department, under direct supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor II performing the following duties: sweeps, scrubs, mops, and waxes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets; cleans, dusts, and polishes cabinets, furniture, and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans stairways, escalators, elevators, hallways, rest rooms, offices, and lobbies; cleans ceilings, walls, window shades, light fixtures, interior glass partitions, and venetian blinds; assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment as required; polishes metalwork; turns out lights and locks doors and windows; refills lavatory supply dispensers; replaces light globes and tubes; operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and other equipment and machinery; as required, operates a freight or passenger elevator.

Working Conditions

This position is in the Plant Operations Department of the 22nd DAA/Del Mar Fairgrounds within San Diego County.  Selected candidates normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm; additionally this position will often be required to work other shifts, weekends, holidays as well as overtime to meet business needs.  During the annual San Diego County Fair, this position requires candidates to work 7 days a week and overtime as needed.  Candidates must be available to start within two weeks after being offered the position and passing the medical evaluation.

Special Requirements

  • Medical Evaluation - If you are selected, you will be required to submit to a Medical Evaluation and receive clearance prior to being hired.
  • Incumbent may be required to work outside during temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work around large crowds and noises.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
