Department Information

The Del Mar Fairgrounds Operations Department is responsible for providing the skilled labor resources to operate and maintain the facilities in support of a wide variety of shows, exhibitions and meetings throughout the year.  Operations is also responsible for the repair, maintenance and minor construction of all the buildings, structures and equipment located on more than 400 acre campus.

Job Description and Duties

Under direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor of Building Trades, the Plumber I works at performing the duties of a journey level plumber; installs, maintains, inspects and repairs plumbing equipment concerned with water, gas, oil, sewage, fire control, steam, refrigeration and reclaimed water systems; trouble shoots plumbing systems; assists in preparing lists of materials, supplies, estimates job costs and lay out of jobs; works from  blueprints, plans and or specifications and directs the work of helpers. Ability to communicate effectively, maintain cooperative relations with the general public and co-workers, demonstrate mechanical aptitude and operate a variety of tools and equipment. 

Working Conditions

Must be available to work five (5) day work week with days off, to be determined. Selected candidate must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime to meet business needs. During the annual San Diego County Fair and select other events throughout the year, candidate must be available to work seven (7) days a week and overtime, as schedules vary depending on events which will dictate the work hours and shifts. Selected candidate must be available to start work within two weeks of being offered the position.

Special Requirements

  • Medical Evaluation - If you are selected, you will be required to submit to a Medical Evaluation and receive clearance prior to being hired.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Required to work outside during temperature extremes or other conditions.

  • Able to work around large crowds and noises.
