Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of the Presiding Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judge, the Legal Support Supervisor I (LSSI):

Supervision:  Is responsible for supervising, planning, directing, and managing a legal support staff of five to fifteen employees. Typical duties include overseeing the completion of all accepted jobs, prioritizing support staff work, setting standards of lead time of clerical work, reviewing work procedures, making decisions on difficult operating problems, and distributing workload. The Legal Support Supervisor may act as ARO. The Legal Support Supervisor will interview and assist with the hiring of secretarial staff and processing paperwork on new hires; assists with the training of office staff and responds to issues and problems with the case management system. The Legal Support Supervisor has the authority to schedule subordinates to work overtime and approves all secretarial vacation and absence requests. Additional responsibilities include handling personnel problems with the secretarial staff.

Office Management:  Is responsible for gathering, through the appropriate supervisor, and disseminating interoffice reports and memorandum; developing and recommending an office equipment budget; and rationalizing distribution of office equipment.

Secretarial:  The LSSI will perform secretarial duties as required including dictation or transcription of complex legal documents and confidential administrative assignments. The Legal Support Supervisor must have knowledge of technical legal terms and various legal forms, letters, documents and their processing. The LSSI shall call into the scheduled EAMS meetings to keep informed and contribute input regarding the system.

Performs other related duties as required.
