Job Description and Duties

The incumbent is responsible for performing the professional and technical tasks related to media relations and public affairs information activities of the Public Affairs Office and the Media and Public Information Branch. The position involves extensive writing and editing, as well as significant interaction with the press and the public.  The duties include using MS Office Suite or other appropriate tools, plans, writes, edits and produces written materials including press releases, reports, articles/features, brochures, fact sheets, speeches, media kits, and PowerPoint presentations; develops communication plans and public information outreach strategies; develops messaging for community outreach; interfaces with the public to obtain feedback on effectiveness of messaging. Serves as a Department spokesperson in response to media requests for broadcast and print interviews; plans, researches, writes and edits scripts for video productions.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to travel outside or during normal business hours. Job duties may involve working in the field including work at high altitudes and/or rugged terrain under varied and sometimes difficult weather conditions.  Must have a valid driver's license.
