Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Medical Review Branch (MRB) Chief, the Health Program Audit Manager III or Staff Services Manager III, will serve as the Assistant Branch Chief, for MRB Field Operations and is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the day-to-day operations of MRB field offices throughout California. The field offices are supervised by a Health Program Audit Manager II and perform duties related to the control of Medi-Cal provider fraud and abuse. As directed by the MRB Branch Chief, will represent MRB in meetings with other state and local agencies, provider associations and federal agencies.

The mission of Audits and Investigations (A&I) is to ensure the fiscal integrity of the health programs administered by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and ensure quality of care provided to the beneficiaries of these programs. The overall goal of A&I is to improve the efficiency, economy, and the effectiveness of DHCS and the programs it administers.

The Medical Review Branch (MRB) focuses on maintaining program integrity within the Medi-Cal program through reviews, audits, inspections and surveys of non-institutional providers. Non-institutional providers include physicians, physician groups, laboratories, pharmacies, durable medical equipment providers and other allied health entities. Branch activities are designed to assure that state and federal dollars spent for services and goods in the Medi-Cal program are used for essential healthcare benefits in compliance with program rules, regulations and law.

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is seeking one candidate to join the Audits and Investigations (A&I), Medical Review Branch (MRB) to fill one Health Program Audit Manager III (HPAM III) or Staff Services Manager III (SSM III) position.
