Job Description and Duties

Under supervision of the Chief of the Office of Emergency Response and senior staff, the candidate will assist in a variety of duties and tasks related to the operation of portable and temporary air monitoring networks, including but not limited to: 1) assistance in preparation of technical reports, plans, and summaries pertaining to emergency events and emergency response programs; 2) performance of data searches and investigations of technical information to support program staff studies and reports; 3) routine maintenance of air monitoring equipment and instruments (cleaning, testing, calibration, assembly, disassembly, maintaining service logs, etc.); 4) assistance to program staff with equipment transfers and deliveries, and equipment set-ups (during deployment exercises and occasional emergency deployments); and 5) shop fabrication tasks such as new equipment assembly and repairs. Assist program staff with data connectivity, web content development and maintenance, geographic information systems, and related communication and data management tools. Will occasionally assist with assignments in other sections and branches within the Monitoring and Laboratory Division.

Permanent Intermittent employees work a maximum of 1500 hours per year and receive a modified benefits package.

Desirable Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, well-rounded team player, have excellent written communication skills, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to work effectively with peers in multiple organizations. The candidate must be dependable, personable, and willing to learn. Experience with the operation and maintenance of environmental monitoring instruments, and knowledge of air monitoring practices and principles is highly desirable. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and data management tools is essential. Completion of or near-completion of a college curriculum leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental science or a related field is essential. Strong writing skills are essential. Experience drafting technical reports, procedures, job instructions, service contracts or procurement documents is highly desirable.

The position requires the ability to move heavy objects and to work outdoors and at elevated heights. An annual physical, including respiratory testing is required. Passing a basic physical and possession of a valid driver's license are requirements of employment.

The candidate may be subject to participation in the following programs and training, including, but not limited to:

• Defensive Driver Training

This position also requires:

Occasional, moderate physical exertion, including unassisted lifting of weights up to 40 lbs. and assisted lifting of weights up to 80 lbs.

Outdoor work during equipment tests, exercises, and possible field deployments, including use of ladders.

Adherence to a safety-related dress code.
